Rebuilding my energy automations after changing supplier
Changing supplier means reviewing the assumptions behind battery, solar, hot water and EV charging automations.
This is a starter post ready to expand.
When an energy automation is built around a tariff, it is easy to forget that the logic may stop being right when the supplier changes.
The checks I need to make include:
- whether battery reserve rules still make sense
- whether solar export is more valuable than storing energy
- whether hot water boosting still saves money
- whether EV charging should favour import, solar or battery avoidance
- whether Home Assistant still has the right sensors and tariff assumptions
The useful lesson here is that automation is not “set and forget”. It needs reviewing whenever the commercial rules change.
